- The Singh Lab integrates synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, total synthesis, computer-aided drug design (CADD), and artificial intelligence (AI) to discover and develop innovative antiviral and anticancer therapeutics. His research focuses on designing and synthesizing novel nucleoside, nucleotide, and small-molecule agents targeting viral polymerases and other essential disease-associated enzymes. He investigates therapeutics against emerging and virulent viruses, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1/2), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), Monkeypox virus (MPXV), Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), HMPV, VZV, Ebola, Lassa, and influenza viruses. His lab also develops prodrug strategies to improve pharmacokinetic properties, cellular delivery, and therapeutic efficacy of drug-like molecules. In the anticancer program, Singh focuses on epigenetic approaches and the development of next-generation nucleoside/nucleotide and small molecules to target highly proliferative cancer cells. The Singh Lab has advanced two preclinical candidates, POM-L-BHDU-MP for shingles and ODE-L-TROX-MP for colorectal cancer.
